Whatever You Do, Leave a Note

Ever see 127 Hours? It ran its course on Netflix and RedBox and if you get any of the movie channels sites like http://www.directtvdeal.com/ talk about, you probably saw it. James Franco portrays the real-life Aron Ralston and his harrowing incident and life-and-death struggle. One of the biggest things they always come back to in the film is how it could have all been avoided – how he might have saved his hand if he’d just left a note.

Granted that Sonoma Valley might not be as treacherous as canyoneering in Utah, but you never really know what can happen in the wild. Nature is so far removed from man’s domain that you really cannot plan or anticipate for every contingency that goes down out there.

You could break your leg.

You could lose all your water.

You could get attacked by a bear.

You could get hurt in a hunting accident.

There are all kinds of things that could happen out there and no one would know to send help or look for you if you didn’t leave word. Cell phones, not even great ones, are a guarantee.

Let’s face it, you don’t really stand to lose anything from letting someone know where you’re going so just leave a note.
